About us

D
arell likes calluses, the idea of wabi sabi, encountering strangers, affectionate architecture, walkable cities, not sleeping, good espresso and textured vegetable protein. She would fight Jing to take Jack Kerouac or Louis Kahn out on a date but relinquish them for the cigar-infused breath of Raymond Carver on her arm anyday. She is a junior at Yale University and strongly believes that taking time out for yourself would make you a much better person.

Jian Ming
is in his penultimate year at Melbourne University, a sizable tertiary institution located on the fringe of Melbourne's CBD.
His brother and mother are amazing photographers. Angry that he hadn't inherited an ounce of artsy-ness, Jian Ming bought a dSLR in 2009 to see if this particular gene was just in exile. He is still on the lookout for It and can at least sense its presence. I'll find you somewhere!

Jian Ming has only met Jing, who is his childhood buddy, and not the other 3 blog members. He does, however, hope to meet them all one day!

Jian Ming loves food that is flavourful, good and exciting. He takes cafes and coffee seriously (NO sugar, please) and is constantly on the lookout for the latest revelation in Melbourne's cafe scene.

To balance things out, Jian Ming goes to the gym, plays the odd game of Volleyball and Badminton and can be found in Pushka, Kere-Kere or Carlton Espresso (where he satisfies his coffee fix).

Jing Yi
is a third year student at Swarthmore College, a tiny liberal arts college right outside of Philadelphia. Born and bred in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, she has been stateside for over 4 years, but every so often still craves roti canai and mamak runs at odd hours of the morning. Her interests include architecture, adventures, flaneuring, swing dance, Beat lit, good coffee shops, road trips, friends and food. If she could choose anyone (past and present) to go on a date with, it would be a really tough call between Jack Kerouac and Louis Kahn (Kerouac would probably win though).

june wants to be a hippie. she was born in the wrong decade.
