Oh what a tiring day! I had to get up quite early to help out with the final year project exhibition set up.

Anyway, not sure if you guys have tried Lemon Lime & Bitters but it's awesome! It's just a slice of lemon, lime cordial, a dash of Angostura Bitters and Sprite/Lemonade.

It's awesome.

Did I mention it was a really hot day as well?

Sunday, October 25, 2009 (-)

Hey guys,
THESE PICTURES ARE AWESOME. I love it. :)
I'm going to have to apologize for being MIA for this week, and probably most of next week too. All my midterms and fencing tournament and random illnesses (pink eye, flu etc.) hit at the exact same time, and I am drowning. Just got 11 hours of sleep last night, and I'm about to hit the books again. See you guys in a week!

"The Huggers 2009"
Melbourne, VIC

You know how there are certain events that make you think 'Hey, life ain't so bad after all'. Or a moment where you look a little closer and observe the expression that people wear and think 'Why are there so many unhappy people?'

I had a combination of the two today. My friend Sarah organised a Free Hug Day outing. Though there were only 4 of us, it turned out to be one of the most amazing days in my life.

My mother used to remind me how ugly one looks when he/she frowns. Even though you think no one is looking, there will always be someone from afar who would spot it.

It is funny how one hug can turn a Grouch into a Smiler.

Thank you Sarah for organising this! This post is dedicated to you! Oh, and thanks to Tian for giving me the idea of photographing Free Hug Day=)

Oh, and thanks to my mom for reminding me not to frown=)

"From 2-D to 3-D"
Matriculation Chocolates, Cambridge, UK

Aperture: f/2.8
Exposure Time: 1/80

These were chocolates, with customized-for-my-college wrappings, that were given out during my matriculation dinner. [I'm considered as a 'fresher' here!] This is also my first completed sketch in my 'Cambridge' sketchbook. I've decided that, throughout this year, I'm going to go around sketching everything in and around Cambridge.

FYI I chose it because of the yummy ingredients (banana, Maple Syrup, nuts) and not because of the name!

My room reflects my state of mind
Swarthmore, PA

I am usually fairly neat. But.

Ugh. Midterms week. I am sick. Stupid pink eye. Fencing tournaments. Structures work is piling up, I am starting to have serious doubts about Structures II. I need to do clean my room. This is the reason why I have been using a lot of Boston pictures (that, plus I liked a lot of the pictures I took!). Sorry for being such a bum. :( This will be over by next Saturday.

Union Station, New Haven, CT

Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/30
ISO: 200

If I may wish one not-very-purposeful wish-- just one,
It would be that I would live in a
City where trains are the lifeblood, lifeline
I would labor, love, laugh on the commute
A book by my side
Station food, Dunkin' Donuts coffee
Mark my days by conductor hellos,
Punched ticket stubs, missed-train-groans

I have a sordid love affair with public transportation.

This was a genuine hug, and seeing this completely made my day :)

Many years back, a friend taught me how to hug, to really hug. From her, I learned how powerful and how comforting a hug could be, and also how much you can convey in such a simple action. Since then, I've given and received many good hugs. And, for that, I am forever thankful to her.

"Captured"
Lygon Street, Melbourne

Aperture: f/18
Shutter Speed: 1/8s
Method: I have no idea

The Herald Sun (Melbourne's trashy newspaper) Cycling Tour was on just near my place.

I couldn't, for the life of me, remember HOW to take action shots with fast fast things. I kinda skipped it when I was reading this photography magazine. Doesn't it remind you of that time during the exams when you thought they wouldn't ask that question on Modigliani and Miller simply because 'I didn't bother reading it, ergo, it won't come out'?

I only remember that you have to move with the object..or something like that.

Anyway, this was my favourite shot. I fluked it. I admit it. I wonder how I did it?

'Tis a journey of discovery, photography.
