April Fool's!
Swarthmore, PA
This is the reason I was up at 4 am this morning - our epic engineering prank.
The best part was definitely hearing people's responses. :)

OMG what is that supposed to be? A buried park bench?
June: that's a precious expression.
it looks like a buried adirondack chair, the trademark chairs that usually lie around on swarthmore's grass field. jing has more details on that.
:)
all those mannequin heads are scary

So, the "big chair" has become one of Swat's trademarks. I want to say it was an engineering student's senior project, but I'm not a hundred percent sure. It's pretty massive, you can definitely fit about 4 people on there at a time. It goes in for the winter and comes out in the spring. People do a lot of fun stuff when it comes out. Last year, I came out of the dining hall to find that someone had arranged all the chairs in a pattern to look like all the small chairs were around the big one, kind of like they were worshipping it. :) We really like the big chair.
So, the big chair hasn't come out this year, but the engineers decided to make it look like we buried it. We made 3 wooden parts (the top, and then the 2 arms) and stuck them into the ground, then put dirt all around it to make it look like it was buried. And left a shovel, so it looked like the whole prank was a Herculean effort by one person! I think a bunch of people eventually figured out that it wasn't actually the big chair, but it was really fun while it lasted!
June - who is that? And yes I love the expression! What was she doing?
And haaaaats! Darell have you gotten any new hats lately? It's straw hat weather!
And enjoy Czech! I can't wait for pictures.
