Bak Kut Teh as it is known, is a dish containing pork and Chinese herbs. It is amazingly tasty! Anyway in the picture above is the starter for this dish, called Yau Char Kuey. It is made of flour (I think) and deep fried and has the most amazing chewy texture.
I had so much to eat that I didn't need to eat lunch (this meal was breakfast) and slept the whole afternoon!

jian, that fried dough looks like what is called "you tiao" in mandarin chinese. literally meaning oil strip, i think.
Some Yau Char Kuey are mixed with plastic to add to the crispy-ness of it.
Jian, I'm jealous! I haven't had yau char kuey in ages! (okay...maybe exaggerating a bit) Same goes for bak kut teh. And yep, it is made of flour. I remember going to pasar pagi's and watching them make it :)
June: KIWIII!! I love how abstract (in a sense) your photos are.
anon: oh my God, plastic?

Tian: YESSS 'You Tiao' is the mandarin name=) It was lovelyyyyyyyyyyyyy. MMMMM. Deeep fried goodness!
June: Apparently so! But it still tastes good!
