"Badge o' Bones"

Kostnice Ossuary, Kutna Hora, Czech Republic

Kutna Hora is a little town 1.5 hours away from Prague. To get there, you have to take the old regional trains with rusty wheels and brakes that would make your grandmother start uttering fervent prayers for her life. Its main attraction is an ossuary decorated with the bones of 40000 people, exhumed from the graveyard around it.

Parrish Beach

"The Beach" is the area outside Parrish, our main building. It's where all the chairs are (and the big chair!), and is a popular hangout spot on sunny days. People bring their guitars and picnic blankets and frisbees and footballs out.

"Easter Contraption"

I happened to stumble upon an Easter Festival whilst walking around the Old Town of Prague.

They had built a four-wheeled contraption decorated with mayflowers for the townfolk to sit on. Smiles and joyousness abound. A lovely Dutch couple sitting above me commented on my sketchbook.

Cities should hold festivals all the time :D

Painting

We looked at portraits in my Renaissance Rome seminar today. I particularly enjoyed the Raphaels. The women are always portrayed with kind of stubby hands and MASSIVE sleeves. It was a status symbol of sorts. Nicer clothes reflected on your husband's wealth and status. Cloth was also hugely expensive, so they used to either sew lightly or tie things together, so it could be reused to make a new dress. Sleeves were almost always tied on.

I loved the way the artists treated cloth in their paintings. I also just really like drawings or paintings of cloth. This one here - my comforter - kind of looks like a painting.
