Firefly
Parrish Beach, Swarthmore, PA

Shutter speed: 13
Aperture: f/22

Get it? :) I'm sorry I'm such a nerd.

On my way up to the engineering building, I stopped to watch the fireflies. Kelip-kelip. I haven't seen so many since Malaysia. They were beautiful (but very evasive on camera). It was one of those moments where you get caught up with your surroundings, and you are compelled to look around you and see all the things you usually walk past without noticing. And you notice everything all at once. And then you try to absorb every piece of sensory information from that moment, in the hopes of retaining that feeling of awe and wonder and amazement. There's something extremely primitive about moments like that. Its like hitting a reset button.

Its been a good start to the year. I am finding peace.

"I release all disappointment
From my mental physical spiritual and emotional body
Cause I know that spirit guides me
And love lives inside me
That's why I today I take life as it comes

P.S. ONE MONTH ANNIVERSARY! We're 1/12 of the way there!

"Warmth"
My Room, Melbourne

Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/25s

I have this light in my room. It is the only source of light. I managed to capture the 'orb effect', i.e the way the light radiates gradually outwards before disappearing. Ok, my room isn't that dark but you get what I mean.

I stare at my light globe sometimes. It's a picture of warmth and calmness. Always there...until the bulb blows.

Road trip!
Upper Darby, PA

Ed, Aden and I went to the Korean supermarket today. We sang along to bad Chinese pop and Taylor Swift on the way there (Ed is a big fan).

My roommate Aden (pictured above) is actually Asian on the inside - she bought way more stuff than I did!!! All I got was a huge bucket of kimchi for my friend Amanda and instant noodles for Abe. The bucket was pretty amazing - I'll have to show you sometime.

Another Mid-Semester Exam on Wednesday. The picture came out blurry and I had half a mind set on deleting it but realised...maybe it was like that for a reason!

I need to study a bit more.

Sparklers
Swarthmore, PA

My RA (residential advisor) came around the hall inviting us outside to play with fireworks and sparklers. Obviously I grabbed my camera. It did make me wish I had a legit tripod though, so maybe I'll invest in one soon. I ended up propping my camera on a ledge and shooting from there. What a nice way to end Sunday. :)

This picture reminds me of this song by The Ataris. I used to be really into them when I was about 13 or 14. I can't even remember the name of the song any more. In this Diary? Here in this diary? God, I don't know. Something like that.

"Lighting fireworks in parking lots
Illuminate the blackest nights
Cherry cokes under this moonlit summer sky..."

I like staring at this. I've always wondered how they support the art pieces that hang off the building wall.
I've been inside this museum before, though all I remember isthat the outside is much more impressive than the inside.

"Simplicity Meets Complexity"
Jam Factory, Melbourne
Aperture: f/5.6

So my friends and I went for a birthday dinner and while waiting for the others to show up we saw this machine, whereby you put $ 1 and try and grab as many chocolates as you can with a robotic arm.
It looked so simple!
Needless to say,we failed and got one mini chocolate.

That chocolate cake was delicious. I had such a chill night. :) Haha I baked, went to a board game night with some of my girlfriends, and then hung out in their room till late. We tried to go to a party but it was pretty terrible. I might be getting old! Or just too old for lame parties. Eep!

"Tall and Short"
Melbourne, VIC

Aperture:f/5.6
Shutter Speed:1/8s
ISO Speed:800

Ok so I didn't actually see the title till a half hour ago. It is actually 11:36pm here in Melbourne. I was in town in the evening taking pictures as I hoped to catch the sunset but missed it! Blergh!

Anyway, pure coincidence that this 'pairs up' with the given theme of the day. I like it how the girl on the left is tall, and so are the buildings. To the right, we have a shorter girl and likewise, shorter buildings. A wishy-washy interpretation of theme but it's the best I could do!
